Alfred Sanzari Enterprises Celebrates Nearly Eight Decades of Real Estate Success

Teaneck, N.J. |

Multiple generations of the Sanzari family were joined by over 550  guests on June 7th at The Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck to celebrate Alfred Sanzari Enterprises’ 78th anniversary.

“Over 75 years ago, my father, Alfred Sanzari, with the unwavering support of my mother Mary, embarked on a journey to create a company built on hard work, integrity and lasting relationships with tenants, employees, partners, and the communities in which we live and work,” said David Sanzari, Chief Executive Officer of Alfred Sanzari Enterprises. “While much has changed in the world since 1945, I take pride in the fact that the core principles on which my father built this company have remained unwavering. Our commitment to those values has played a pivotal role in reaching the significant milestone we celebrate tonight.”

Ryan Sanzari, President of Alfred Sanzari Enterprises added, “The year 2020, coinciding with our 75th anniversary, truly tested the solid foundation laid by my grandfather, father, and uncle as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded. As we finally commemorate our anniversary tonight, the preceding years have demonstrated the enduring worth of the ideals upon which this company was built. These ideals will continue to propel us into the future.”

Since its founding in 1945, Alfred Sanzari Enterprises’ steadfast commitment to quality, hard work, and integrity has made it one of New Jersey’s most respected commercial real estate developers and property managers. The Alfred Sanzari Enterprises story traces its roots back to the efforts of a young shoeshiner named Alfred Sanzari that was often found working tirelessly on the steps of the Bergen County Courthouse to provide for his impoverished family.

Alfred made his initial foray into real estate as a tin knocker constructing ventilation and duct work in the late 1930s and was soon drafted to serve in the United States Army in World War II. Following the war’s end in 1945, Alfred returned to work the day after he arrived back in the United States. His entrepreneurial spirit soon inspired him to open his own sheet-metal subcontracting firm to support northern New Jersey’s booming homebuilding market. That same year, Alfred founded Alfred Sanzari Enterprises with his wife, Mary, to construct four single Cape-Cod style homes in Dumont, N.J.

From humble beginnings, Alfred Sanzari Enterprises quickly expanded its focus beyond homebuilding, venturing into constructing multifamily apartments and industrial buildings where the company’s reputation for quality relationships with its tenants and long-term ownership began to take shape.

In the following decades, Alfred Sanzari Enterprises continued to thrive, developing many of the most well-known properties that are still part of its portfolio today such as the Ivanhoe, a luxury high-rise apartment building in Hackensack; Court Plaza, a 335,000-square-foot Class-A office complex located just steps from the same Bergen County Courthouse in Hackensack where Alfred shined shoes as a child; and Glenpointe, the company’s flagship 670,000-square-foot office campus in Teaneck, N.J. While the company’s portfolio expanded significantly and Alfred welcomed his two sons – Ben and David – to the company’s leadership team, it never lost sight of the ideals that its success was built upon.

In 2011, the company welcomed the third generation of family leadership as Ryan Sanzari joined the company and quickly rose through the ranks to become President in 2021. Today, the firm manages a portfolio spanning over five-million-square-feet of office, residential, industrial, retail, and hospitality properties and is a living testament to what can be accomplished through a steadfast commitment to quality, hard work, and integrity. As Alfred Sanzari Enterprises looks to the future under its third generation of family leadership, Alfred’s example will continue to provide a blueprint for success in an increasingly competitive market and lead the firm to new heights.

The anniversary event celebration featured an 80’ display featuring artifacts and photos of the history of Alfred Sanzari Enterprises. In addition, guests were treated to a showing of “Building a Legacy”, a documentary highlighting the story of Alfred and the vision he provided for the future.
